Roundtrip Palinuro -
Panorama roundtrip
Palinuro, start at Palinuro harbor to boat ships of the fishers of Palinuro
to visit the interior of the wonderful grottoes of the Cape of Palinuro:
the blue grotto, the blood grotto, the monk's and bone grotto, afterwards
short swimming break in the bay of "good sleep". Lunchbreak
in a restaurant or country estate. Afternoon trip through the hell valley
to (High) Camerota with a stop at the potters' to watch craftspeople at
work; continuation to Marina di Camerota with visit of the grotto of Lentiscelle,
where the only 9,5 m long Schooner "Leon di Caprera" is kept,
in which in 1880 three Italians (amongst them Pietro Troccoli from Marina
di Camerota) crossed the Atlantic Ocean. The Cilento: Sea,

Departure from Marina
di Camerota, visit of the grottos and bays of the wonderful Infreschi
coast, named after the many fresh water springs, which flow from the mountains
to the coast. Swimming break in the Infreschi bay and return. Traveling
on towards Palinuro with lunch break at a restaurant or country estate.
Afternoon panorama roundtrip on the cape of Palinuro and stop at the abandoned
medieval village of San Severino di Centola, better know under the name
"ghost village". Situated above the spectacular Mingardo valley,
it was abandoned in the 70s by its inhabitants, who settled in the valley
below. The villages location with its lanes and collapsed houses forms
an exciting scenery of silence. Maratea: the Statue
of Christ and its Coast Maratea is considered
the jewel of the Basilikata, and even more. Nature, architecture, and
tradition combine to such beauty that it deserves to be enjoyed for a
day. The visit includes: the historical center (streets, buildings, gates,
churches); the statue of the savior (22m high); the long grottos of Marina
di Marateas and a boat trip along the coast with swimming break. Lunch
break of fish in a harbor restaurant with sea view.
The National Park, Nature and Man: Visit of the WWF-Oasis Morigerati The Bussento river,
the last river of Campania, disappears from view for about 6 km, to resurface
near the town of Morigerati. Since 1995 the second source of the Bussento
river has been entrusted to the oases of the WWF to protect flora and
fauna. The trip leads along a vegetation rich path and an underground
gang of approx. 80m, following the underground riverbed. The Coastal
Park of Infreschi: on Foot and by Boat.
A coastal park is
not only the coast under, but also above water. During this trip you cannot
only enjoy great views, but you will also find out about the geological
and archaeological histories of this area. You will be acquainted with
the varied, characteristic species of the Mediterranean "macchia".
The trip offers a leap down the last two million years. Return by boat,
with visit of the impressive grottos along the coast, arrival in the harbor
of Marina di Camerotas. Camerota: On
the Trail of the Greek Monks Naturalistic walk
along the antique path from Camerota to Palinuro. Crossing the remains
of antique see terraces, you encounter majestic olive trees of the "Pisciotta"-kind,
and the ruins of the Italian-Greek monastery of San Cono, where the monks
cultivated licorice, traces of which can still be found today. Archeology of the Cilento: Velia and Surroundings Velia was founded
in 540 BC by a Greek colony (focea), which had fled from Persian rule.
After 20 years of wandering in the Mediterranean they choose to settle
on the coast of the Cilento, which reminded them of their home country.
Of interest is the philosophic school which reached its full bloom in
Elea-Velia with the key representatives Parmenide and Zenone. Afterwards
visit to a cheesemaker with samples of the products. The The Grottos of Pertosa and the Certosa di Padula Visit of the enchanting
grottos of Pertosa, which have been formed by the erosion of the river
Tanagro over the millennia. The first part is covered on rafts stirred
by competent guides, the second on foot. In the afternoon visit to the
charter house of San Lorenzo in Padula, which was founded in 1306 by Tommaso
Sanseverino, Count of Marsico. One of the most important and powerful
monuments of Southern Italy, yet at the same time relatively unknown,
the monastery is with its 32 000 square meters surface one of the largest
in Europe. Paestum: The Archaeological Excavations and the Museum In the gulf of Salerno
the Archeans founded in the VII. century BC the town of Poseidonia near
the sea, which remains to this day with its ring of walls, the three Doric
temples (the basilica, the temple of Neptune, the temple of Ceres) and
other small buildings the most impressive architectural ensemble of Magna
Graecia. Visit of the excavations and the museum. Guided tour of the
historical center of Pisciotta. The village has lent its name to an unusual
plant, which predominates in the lower Cilento: the olive tree. Along
the old fishing road you can reach the typical village Marina di Pisciotta,
where to this day the thousand of year old fishing with the "menaide"
has continued. Tasting of "Menaide"-anchovies. The Ghosttown,
Olive Oil, and Local Cuisine
Visit of the medieval
village of San Severino di Centola, above the spectacular valley of the
Mingardo, abound around 30 years ago. The ruins of the castle, dating
back to the year 1000, testify to its importance during the eras of Anjou
and Aragon. The absence of inhabitants creates a very exciting atmosphere.
Continuation to Licusati with visit of an oil press and tasting of olive
oil of Pisciotta-quality. Finally break on a country estate to taste local
dishes: stews, olives, cheeses, cakes, wine. Snorkeling Between the Bays of the Infreschi Coast Accompanied by experienced
staff (guida blu) from the diving center of Marina di Camerota you swim
equipped with diving goggles and flippers between the smaller and larger
bays of the Infreschi coast, a practicing a natural and ecological sport,
and respecting the biological balance, to encounter the inhabitants of
the "sixth continent". |
