Night Time Fishing with the "Lamparate"
The fishers of the cooperative "Monte di Luna" invite you to a very special evening with their motor boats and two "lampare": participation in "lampara" - fishing and dinner of the catch on the beach (bread, whine and water melon to complement the fun included!!)
What is "lamparata"?
This way of fishing is an old method of night fishing. One or more rowing boats, equipped at the afterdeck with the so-called "lampara", a special gas lamp (today run with a generator), are slowly stirred out to sea by the fisher or anchored on the open sea in such a way that the cone of light attracts the fishes to the best spot to encircle them with nets.
The fine-meshed net is called "gingiolo", because it can be lowered down at the right moment, by attaching suitable iron hooks, and it can be drawn together suddenly, when it has been cast out around the lampara to encircle the fishes.
Our fishers use the oldest method of "lamperata", like "back in the days" so to speak, , i.e. without electronic or technical aids such as sonar or echo-sounder; simply manually with the gas lamp to avoid all acoustic disturbances during fishing. The net is finally thrown out from the coast by hand, so as not to damage the bottom of the sea and its fauna through steel chains or wire ropes . Every phase of fishing is explained carefully in advance by the main fisher, while the guest boats are taken to the fishing boat at the end, so everyone has to opportunity to help drawing in the net and to see the fish jump before one's eyes and in one's hands ...
The "lamparata" is also an opportunity to experience the skills of the fishers and to gain a remarkable insight into their culture, but it is most of all an opportunity to pass a spectacular evening on the sea, as the work of the fishers and the patience of the viewers are rewarded by a joyful shared dinner on the beach with bread, freshly prepared fish and good wine ... and finally water melon!
Each week one or more "lamparate" are organized, usually Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on demand. Departure from the harbor of Marina di Camerota at 8pm, meeting point at 7.30pm at the gazebo of the association in the harbor at the boat service station Q 8 - return around 1.30am.

Night Fishing with the "Schetta"
This is another old method of fishing with a special net, suited to catch entire swarms; this net is cast and immediately pulled together after the fish have been encircled. One can participate on board of the fisher boats or on the so-called "Calanca" beach, near the spot, where the net is cast. This way of fishing is relatively fast, so our fishers will cook the catch together with the beach restaurant "Calanca Beach" immediately afterwards wine and bread inclusive.

"Schetta"-fishing begins at 10pm and around 1- 1 ½ hours later the catch can already be eaten!

Participants: at least 10 to a maximum of 20 people

Participation in Fishing with Trawl, "Bolentino" and Painter
In this genuine working with the fishers the tourist has the opportunity to enter their world and step into their shows: taking on some steps of trawling (this is mainly done from the beginning of August on), of "Bolentino"-fishing or the preparation of the painter (called "coffe" in the dialect) and their casting at dawn, so as to draw it in again during the morning.
Those ways of fishing have to be undertaken in the summer from 4am to at the latest 9/10am.

Evening Trips to Spaghetti Dinners (Spaghettata) or Dinner on the Beach
The fishers' association "Monte di Luna" organizes together with "Pirata di Porto Infreschi" and the beach restaurant "Da Antonio al Pozzallo" evening trips with spaghetti dinners or complete dinner menu on the beach of the Infreschi harbor or the Pozzallo beach. You can enjoy the trip on one of our boats to the most beautiful spots of the Cilento and eat comfortably at table ... but directly on the beach!
